money without culture is ostentacious and offensive glitter
culture without money is like an emigre whose fortune is elsewhere but the aura of sophistication lingers about and the memory haunts its proprietor
to me a nation needs both but when money becomes mammoth and idolatry sets in it is a slippery slope to demise and folly and money begets culture and culture begets money where in the end the most precious things are not transactable with material possessions but through the riches of the soul
a nation needs a soul because it is a collection of individuals and if the individuals be without so wil the nation be and if a nation leans too much to material and sacrifices its soul then it is the individuals who caused that to happen not an invisible hand
